DESCRIPTION:\nWe thank our event sponsor\n\n \nProgram Description and Benefits:\nWhy does everyone think it’s malpractice not to use grantor trusts, but then ignore the ability to keep trusts taxed directly to individuals after a grantor’s death under Code Section 678?  BDOTs are often much more income tax efficient for lower-middle income families (by avoiding higher compressed tax brackets and loss of certain tax benefits endemic to non-grantor trusts) but equally advantageous for the uber-wealthy (who want their GST exempt trusts to grow tax-free).  Moreover, the asset protection for such trusts, while seemingly deficient at first glance, can actually be far superior over time v. ordinary non-grantor trusts.  We’ll learn the pros and cons of such trusts and when they best fit a client’s estate plan.\n \nSpeaker Biography: \nEd Morrow co-chairs the Estate Planning Group at Kelleher + Holland, LLC, a Chicago area-based law firm. He is an Ohio-licensed attorney with an MBA, an LL.M. in tax law and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification and is a Fellow at The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), currently chairing its Employee Benefits committee and serving as a member of its Asset Protection committee. Ed co-authored, with Paul Hood and the late Steve Leimberg, the acclaimed publication, "The Tools & Techniques of Estate Planning," currently in its 21st Edition.  He is currently an Accredited Estate Planner® (Distinguished) Nominee for the NAEPC Estate Planning Hall of Fame® Class of 2025.\n \nLogistics:\n There is no cost for members to register; $80 for guests and emeritus members Closest Metro: Metro Center Limited parking is available in the building for a fee.   Registration and networking begin at 5 pm and the program begins at 5:20 pm. Reception following the presentation. Guests are warmly welcome when accompanying a member host. Members that register but do not attend without 24-hour cancellation will be billed a no-show fee of $80.
