Program Description and Benefits:
Hear an insider’s perspective of what triggers an audit (what the IRS looks for in estate and gift matters), how best to deal with the IRS during an audit, and what really happens at the Chief Counsel’s office with respect to how regulations are implemented and interpreted.

Speaker Biography:
James Hogan has more than 35 years of legal and accounting experience. He was a Branch Chief in Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Office of the Chief Counsel. In that role, he had responsibility for all matters relating to estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax issues. In addition, he reviewed briefs filed by IRS in the United States Tax Court and memoranda to attorneys in the Department of Justice. Currently, he is the managing director at Andersen Tax.

James is an instructor for the Georgetown University Law School Graduate Tax Program and he has been a guest panelist for the District of Columbia Bar, California Bar and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, discussing estate tax planning issues.
