Student Membership Application

The Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council has more than 250 members who work in a variety of estate planning professions, such as law, accounting, financial planning, trust and estate management, insurance, valuations, and charitable planning. While the Council's primary objective is to establish and support collaborative efforts in the estate planning profession and community, another of our objectives is to help our profession become more racially balanced and equitable. We encourage students from diverse backgrounds to enter the field of estate planning through student membership. 

Student members of the Council receive the following benefits: 

• Admission to 4 to 8 educational programs throughout the year  (when we meet in person, this includes food and drink);
• Networking before and after the programs with leading professionals in the industry, which we hope will generate employment leads; and
• Social forums where you can meet other students interested in the estate planning profession.

The Council can have 25 student members at a time. Open spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. 

To qualify for student membership, the applicant must: 

1. Be 21 years of age or older;

2. Be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university (including undergraduate, law school, or graduate school) in a field of study closely-aligned with the professional disciplines of our active members (law, accounting, business, financial planning, insurance, valuations, charitable planning, and trust & estate management); and

3. Have attended at least one (1) Council outreach event OR a general membership meeting as a guest within one (1) year of application.

4. Pay nominal dues of $25 a year.

An associate member category is available for Student members who graduate with their degree and wish to remain affiliated with the Council. A student member whose membership has terminated due to graduation from the degree program that initially qualified the student for membership will automatically be eligible to be an associate member of the Council for the following fiscal year an for up to five years thereafter. Annual associate member dues are $25 annually. 

Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council is affiliated with the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils and joining can fulfill the requirement of belonging to an affiliated local estate planning council to become an Accredited Estate Planner® (AEP®) designee.
