Program Description and Benefits:
The U.S. estate tax can apply not only to Americans but also non-Americans who have investments in the United States.  It is important that non-Americans seek advice before investing in the U.S. stock market and real estate.  U.S. tax considerations also affect how non-Americans should do their estate planning for their American family members.  Please join this session to learn more about the U.S. tax rules that affect investing and estate planning for non-Americans and their families.

Speaker Biography:
George R. McCormick, JD, LLM,is a partner and Co-Chair of Moses Singer's Private Client Practice Group. He provides U.S. federal tax, estate and trust planning advice to high net worth individuals and their families, entrepreneurs and business owners, family offices, and trust companies. George advises clients with general estate planning and more advanced gift and estate planning, including counseling fund principals with gifting fund interests, creating grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs), intentionally defective grantor trusts (IDGTs), charitable trusts, and advising on the use of life insurance strategies and structures. George also advises clients on different asset protection strategies.

George advises many clients who have an international connection, whether they are non-U.S. persons or Americans residing overseas. He developed this focus earlier in his career by practicing in Hong Kong for over five years. Prior to entering private practice, George worked for the Florida Department of Revenue administering taxpayer audit appeals, providing taxpayers with guidance concerning state tax laws, and advising state legislators and executives on federal and state tax law and legislation. Before that, George was Legislative Counsel to U.S. Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D., of Texas where he drafted U.S. federal income and estate tax legislation.
