The Washington, DC Estate Planning Council is pleased to welcome Laura Lynn Thomas, President of the Howard County Estate Planning Council, for a timely Maryland Legislative Update. This program is a collaborative effort among the Estate Planning Councils of Montgomery County, Howard County, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C.

This program will provide an overview of key legislative updates and their impact on estate planning practitioners and clients.

Speaker: Laura Lynn Thomas is the founder of Legacy Legal Planning, located in Columbia, Maryland. Laura focuses her practice on developing comprehensive estate plans to help clients preserve their legacies. She works with individuals at various stages in their lives, from young professionals to those dealing with the administration of an estate. Laura believes that everyone benefits from having an estate plan to guide their loved ones through a difficult period. Laura has a particular affinity for assisting multi-generational business owners preserve and protect the businesses they spent lifetimes building. The intersection of estate planning, business succession planning, and income tax planning requires special care and attention for these families.

Laura is the Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Estate and Trust Law Section and a member of the Section’s Legislative Committee. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, President of the Howard County Estate Planning Council, a graduate of the ACTEC Mid-Atlantic Fellows Institute, and a vice chair of the Investment Entities group of the American Bar Association, Real Property, Trust, and Estate Law Section. Outside of the office, she is a Trustee of the Howard County Conservancy.

Laura is admitted to the Bar in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and DC. She received her LL.M. in Taxation from the Charles Widger School of Law at Villanova University, her J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America, and her B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
